You generally need an iPhone(s aapl) or Android(s goog) handset if you want a smartwatch or health tracker, because most of these don't work with Windows Phone(s msft). But there's a change coming: Fitbit is working on Windows Phone 8.1 support. WPCentral caught this brief statement on Fitbit's official support forums: "Fitbit is developing an application for Windows Phone 8.1. Thank you for all your feedback and support!" That's not much to go on. However, there is a Fitbit app for Windows 8.1 already, so with Microsoft's new universal app support, it may not take too much effort for the Fitbit team to bring its app to Microsoft handsets. Disclosure: Fitbit is backed by True Ventures, a venture capital firm that is an investor in the parent company of Gigaom.
