Lance Crosby has a big job for a big company. He's the former SoftLayer CEO who is now CEO and GM of the SoftLayer group within IBM(s ibm). Compared to Amazon and Google, IBM, despite (or perhaps because of?)  it's sheer size and storied history, is seen as an underdog in this arena but Crosby brings with him SoftLayer's credibility among web-generation companies -- the sorts of companies that flocked to Amazon Web Services.

He also has some interesting thoughts on how the cloud vendor situation will sort itself out in the next few years. So take a listen and then come back for more when Crosby speaks Structure in on June 18.

But before that Derrick Harris on why artificial intelligence, which has been the technology on the brink of blast off on and off for the past 30 years may finally be on the cusp of adoption..

And  with Structure just two weeks away, Derrick Harris and I recap some of the inter-vendor squabbling that shows just how hotly contested cloud business is. The latest example being the back-and-forth between Amazon Web Services, king of public cloud, and VMware, master of in-house server virtualization.  One thing about the cloud computing beat, it's never boring. So give it a listen.
